LPWAN Coverage Assessment Planning Without Explicit Knowledge of Base Station Locations

An assessment of radio network coverage, usually in the form a measurement campaign, is essential for multibase-station (multi-BS) deployment and maintenance. It can be conducted by operator or its served consumers. However, number points their locations may not known advance an efficient accurate evaluation. The main goal this study to propose new methodology understanding selection during coverage signal quality assessment. particularly tailored multi-BS low-power wide-area (LPWAN) deployments without explicit knowledge BS locations. To aim, we first conduct large-scale campaign three popular LPWAN technologies, namely, narrowband IoT (NB-IoT), Sigfox, LoRaWAN. Utilizing baseline data, develop procedure identifying minimum set with given accuracy as well which interpolation algorithms produce lowest approximation error. Our results demonstrate that random choice on par deterministic selection. Out candidate algorithms, Kriging method offers attractive performance terms absolute error NB-IoT deployments. In contrast, Sigfox LoRaWAN infrastructures, less complex techniques, such natural neighbor, linear interpolation, inverse-distance weighting, achieve comparable (and occasionally even better) levels.
